Joseph Cartron “Unexpected” Bartender Competition – (ONLINE/USA & UK)

Please be sure you read through the rules in their entirety before registering.

ONLINE REGISTRATION (UK AND USA – ONLINE SUBMISSION)

Registration will be open worldwide from January 15th, 2022, until March 27th, 2023 for the USA and March 31th for the UK.

USA winner announcement : March 31st

All entries should be submitted via the registration form available on   www.unexpectedcartrontour.com . All fields marked with a (*) are mandatory.

Joseph Cartron and its distributors worldwide will have the right and license to use, adapt, reproduce, and publish any recipe submitted online and related images without being entitled to any compensation. Similarly, any photos or videos of the bartenders taken during the competition could be used, published, and reproduced.

 

PARTICIPANTS

The competition is open only to professional bartenders of legal consumption age, currently residing and working at a bar in the country from which they register.

Participants should be able to speak English in order to make their presentation to the international judging panel at the global final in Burgundy.

Participants should make sure to be available for the duration of the world final trip final to be held mid-july 2023.

 

COCKTAIL SUBMISSION

The recipe should be an original and personal creation.

Each competitor must use a Joseph Cartron product as the primary spirit in the cocktail. This includes our entire portfolio of fine Crèmes, Liqueurs, Vermouths, and Eaux-de-Vie. Other spirits should be used as modifiers, creating an “Unexpected” reversal in the template of a traditional cocktail. You must also incorporate an “Unexpected” element into your cocktail and/or presentation. This can be inside the glass or out, part of your presentation or part of your cocktail – whatever interpretation you wish, but make sure you explain what it is and why.

The rest is up to you!

 

Ingredient specifications:

  • Joseph Cartron products MUST be the primary and dominant spirit in cocktail and measure no less than 1 oz/30 ml.
  • Any Joseph Cartron product is eligible for use including crèmes, liqueurs, vermouths, and eaux-de -vie.
  • Use of more than one Joseph Cartron product is permitted.
  • Primary Joseph Cartron product in cocktail should not be chemically modified.
  • The use of any commercial spirits, bitters, sodas, juices, etc. found behind most cocktail bars worldwide is permitted.
  • Commercial syrups are not permitted.
  • The use of homemade ingredients such as homemade bitters, infusions, foams, etc. is permitted. Homemade syrup is permitted. For all homemade ingredients, the complete recipe and method of preparation must be clearly specified.
  • Other ingredients, such as fruits, type of ice, etc. must be clearly specified
  • If using rum, Spiribam rum is preferred (though not mandatory).
  • The use of any other liqueur brands is not permitted.
  • Brands or types of spirit must be clearly stated.
  • The choice of glassware is yours and must be clearly specified.

Cocktail Recipe specifications:

  • The entire recipe must be expressed in exact measurements or number of drops used.
  • Cocktail preparation techniques must be clearly indicated.
  • Cocktail photo is mandatory.

Cocktail Video Submission:

  • A video submission is mandatory.
  • This video should be no longer than five minutes and should showcase the preparation of your cocktail.
  • Keep in mind, this video is in lieu of an in-person cocktail presentation and will be judged as the presentation portion which is 30% of your score.
  • Feel free to take creative liberty with editing, sound, costume, theme, angle of shot, etc. Use the video submission method to your creative advantage and remember, this competition is all about the untraditional and unexpected!
  • Please film vertically (as you would Instagram reels or TikTok).
  • If your video cannot be submitted via the registration form, you can instead upload and submit the video via the indicated link (Google Drive, WeTransfer, Dropbox, etc. are good options for this).

EVALUATION

Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Perceived taste and balance (20%)
  • Ability to highlight and showcase Joseph Cartron in cocktail (30%)
  • “Unexpected” element (20%)
  • Presentation (20%)
  • Social Media campaign (10%)

 

Social media campaign will consist of a weighted point system measured by each post (static and video, IG and Tiktok) using the #UnexpectedCartronTour hashtag.

 

 

 

WORLD FINAL

The world final will be held at an undisclosed location in Burgundy, France mid-july 2023. One winner from each regional competition will have the opportunity to discover all the wonders Burgundy has to offer through a multi-day adventure of “unexpected” experiences, cumulating in the “Unexpected Cartron Tour” final.

For the winners: care for one person for the 3 days (mid-july 2023):

Hotel of our choice (breakfast included) + restaurant for lunch and dinner during the 3 days (within the limit of 40€ per person and per meal, food and drink included in the restaurants reserved by the Cartron company.

Round trip transportation in economy or second class, by train or plane depending on the winner’s city or country of departure.

The details of the grand finale will be “unexpected” and undisclosed until your arrival in Burgundy, but you will not be recreating your winning regional cocktail. You will be notified of any tools or ingredients you will need to bring with you well in advance of your adventure. One competitor will be crowned Global Unexpected in Burgundy champion and will be welcomed back, expenses paid, as a guest judge for the next of the competition and will be offered opportunities to collaborate with Joseph Cartron on a per event basis based on location and availability.

I – ONLINE REGISTRATION (France, United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Denmark and Italy)

France : registration will be open worldwide from January 15th, 2023, until February 20th, 2023.

United Arab Emirates : registration will be open from January 15th, 2023, until March 31th, 2023.

Sweden : registration will be open from January 15th, 2023, until March 13th, 2023.

Denmark : registration will be open from January 15th, 2023, until March 17th, 2023.

Italy : registration will be open from January 15th, 2023, until March 27th, 2023.

  • Only the use of Spiribam rum (Bounty, Chairman’s Reserve, Admiral Rodney, Rhum J.M, Rhum Clément, Beach House, Arcane) is mandatory in cocktail for FRANCE ONLY. Optional for the other countries
  • The use of any other liqueur brands is not permitted.
  • Brands or types of spirit must be clearly stated.
  • The choice of glassware is yours and must be clearly specified.

Once the submission period has ended, an esteemed panel of judges (TBD) will evaluate and score the submissions. Ten regional finalists per region will be announced on March 13th and invited to the finals in their perspective regions via email followed by a social media announcement.

 

REGIONAL/NATIONAL COMPETITIONS

ORGANIZATION

The finalists* will be announced in each region and invited to compete in a live competition where they will prepare and present their Joseph Cartron “Unexpected” cocktail to an esteemed panel of judges.

One winner from each of these live regional events will move on to the global final in Burgundy during the cassis harvest in July of 2023. Bartenders must make sure to be available on the date of their region’s live competition as well as the Global final in Burgundy July 10th, to July 12th.

“UNEXPECTED” COCKTAIL PRESENTATION

Finalists will be asked to recreate and present their previously submitted Joseph Cartron “Unexpected” cocktail on stage to a panel of bar professionals. Each finalist will have 10 minutes (5 minutes to set up + 5 minutes to present) to prepare 4 servings of their creation. Exceeding the time limit will result in penalization.

Evaluation will be based on the following criteria:

  • Taste, Balance, & Appearance (30%)
  • “Ability to highlight & showcase Joseph Cartron in cocktail (20%)
  • “Unexpected” element (30%)
  • Presentation and storytelling (20%)

A panel of three esteemed spirits professionals will judge each regional competition based on these criteria. The competitor with the highest total score will become champion of their region and will go on to compete in Burgundy.

 

WORLD FINAL

The world final will be held at an undisclosed location in Burgundy, France July 10th to July 12th 2023. One winner from each regional competition will have the opportunity to discover all the wonders Burgundy has to offer through a multi-day adventure of “unexpected” experiences, cumulating in the “Unexpected Cartron Tour” final. The details of the grand finale will be “unexpected” and undisclosed until your arrival in Burgundy, but you will not be recreating your winning regional cocktail.

 

For the winners: Accommodations for one person for the 3 days (July 10th to 12th, 2023):

All data collected in this form is processed by the Company Joseph Cartron. The Joseph Cartron Company is responsible for processing the data, intended to manage your participation in the contest. Subject to obtaining your prior and express consent, your data may also be used by the Company Joseph Cartron for commercial prospecting purposes; you may withdraw your consent at any time.

 

PERSONAL DATA

We inform you of the processing of data concerning you, in accordance with articles 12 and 13 of the General Regulation for the Protection of Personal Data (RGPD), and with article 32 of the amended Data Protection Act of January 6, 1978.

Purpose of the processing (purposes and legal basis):

  1. The data collected by the Joseph Cartron Company on the competition forms is used solely for the management of the competition and the awarding of prizes.
  2. The legal basis for the organization of the contest is the legitimate interest of the Joseph Cartron Company; for the selection of the winner(s) and the awarding of prizes, the rules that you have accepted; and finally, for the collection of your date of birth, compliance with a legal obligation to which the controller is subject to (verification of the age of participants, as participation in contests is prohibited for minors).

Data processed on the participants of the contest:

  1. The data collected within the framework of the contest concerns exclusively, and for the needs of the present, the following data relating to the participant: first name, last name, e-mail (to inform the winner), date of birth (for age verification).
  2. The data collected, relating to the organization and processing of the contests: the date of participation, the answers brought to the contests and the nature of the prizes offered.

 

The validation of the participation in the contest is subject to the provision of this information by the participant.

o The data collected is stored on the developer’s servers

o Users will access a private space on the site thanks to an identifier and a password encrypted in the database and created by themselves

o The change of password is managed by sending an email (forgotten password)

o The request to delete an account is done by sending an email to the contact

o The accounts of the participants will be deleted automatically at the end of the contest

 

Required fields: 

The fields marked with an asterisk on the contest entry form are required. Otherwise, your participation cannot be considered. The requirement to provide personal data is contractual, except for the date of birth, which is regulatory.

 

Recipients of the data:

Within the limits of their respective attributions, Joseph Cartron may have access to your personal data:

  1. The authorized personnel of the marketing department as well as the hierarchical managers of the company Joseph Cartron and Spiribam.
  2. The authorized personnel of the services in charge of control (auditor, services in charge of the internal procedures of control…).
  3. The authorized personnel of the service providers that Joseph Cartron may call upon for the organization of the contest.

Duration of data retention:

  1. Identity, data relating to the organization and processing of the competition: for the entire duration of the competition until the prizes are awarded.

Rights of the persons:

You can access the data concerning you or request its deletion. You also have the right to object, the right to rectify, the right to limit the processing of your data, the right to portability of your data and the right to define directives concerning the fate of your personal data after your death (see http://www.cnil.fr for more information on your rights).

All requests must specify the reason for the request, the company concerned by it (Joseph Cartron) and the address to which the reply should be sent. In case of doubt as to the applicant’s identity, proof of identity may be requested. Joseph Cartron will send its reply within a maximum of one month from the date of receipt of the request; this period may be extended by two months due to the complexity and number of requests.

If you believe, after contacting us, that your rights regarding information technology and civil liberties are not being respected, you may submit a complaint to the CNIL, either online, directly on the CNIL website, or by post to CNIL – 3 Place de Fontenoy – TSA 80715 – 75334 PARIS CEDEX 07.

 

RESPONSIBILITY – ACCEPTANCE OF THE CONTEST – DISPUTES – ALL COUNTRIES

The organizer reserves the right to shorten, extend or cancel the present contest, if circumstances so require.

It is not the organizer’s responsibility for a case of force majeure or independent of its will if the game must be modified, shortened, or cancelled.

The simple fact of participating in this contest implies the acceptance without restriction of the present rules and the results. All cases not provided for in these rules, all disputes relating to its application or interpretation will be decided sovereignly and ultimately by the organizing company.

The organizer reserves the right to carry out any verification it deems useful, relating to compliance with the rules, particularly to remove any participant who has made an inaccurate or misleading statement or fraud.

The Rules are governed by French law. Any difficulty in applying or interpreting the Rules will be decided exclusively by the organizer.
